KJ6RA Tower Project

Well, once the base and rebar were completed it was finally time for the building inspection to make a visit. After his review of the project I had only one problem, I was 5 inches to short on the frame!! The plans did not call out for gravel, even though Rohn had shown it in their drawing. Guess I should have stuck to my engineered plans. So, we added a 2X6 all around the top of the frame and that took care of the problem.

The next thing was to see if the concrete trucks could back into the tower site, or would I need a pump truck. Thankfully, it was determined that the trucks could make it in to the base even though it is on a slight downhill slope. I just had to clear a path through the manzanita brush. Probably was a good idea to clear that out anyway, as it is a pretty good fire hazard. The concrete was finally poured on November 2, 2003.

Finally after two years, we have the concrete in the ground. Now to get it all leveled and floated.

There was 15 yards of concrete ordered and all but probably a bucket full went into the base! That's what  you call ordering just enough.......I was planning on having some extra left over for steps!
