After the initial digging of the hole and having a friend who was a licensed PE do the engineering we had to really do things a bit differently. Rohn's designed called for a 8X8X5 deep hole, with 1' rebar on 12" centers. Our tower was designed with a 8X8X6 deep foundation with #5 rebar on 6" centers. The #5 rebar is much easier to work with although it sure made for a lot more joints to tie.

After the initial framing we then added 6 inches of gravel to the bottom of the hole.

Next we set the base section in the hole so we could get the rebar cage installed.

Just about ready for the concrete.
