KJ6RA Tower Project

This project started about two years ago in 2002. When we moved to our current location I finally had room to put up a HF tower. The first step AFTER digging the initial hole was go to the building department and apply for a permit. This process was pretty painless except for the $380 fee and clearing the brush!!

The tower is six 10 foot sections, it has the bottom section buried 6 foot into the concrete base. The base contains 15 yards of concrete and designed to be self supporting up to 60 feet with a 20 sq ft antenna load at the top.

Now we have a hole in the ground, what do we do next??

After we had the hole dug we had some problems trying to decide how we were going to get the hole shored up so that it would hold concrete. At first I thought I could just put some plywood in there but then when you figure out the weight of 15 yards of concrete you realize that you have to do something else.
